We've had two crazy weeks here in Connecticut. Over the past two weeks, we've had a professional development day, 3 snow days, and 3 two-hour delays. I was SO happy to have three full days of school this week. In the photo above I tried to capture how high the mounds of snow are in our school parking lot, but I failed! An entire row of our parking spaces is just gone. Now, that's an incentive not to get to work at the last minute! There might be nowhere to park.
Some of this week's craziness I brought on myself. The students earned a class reward for filling our button jar. They wore pajamas to school and were allowed to bring one toy or stuffed animal. We also did some "Go-Noodling" this week. Disco Brain was a favorite. They also liked the silly "cat high five" video. By now, I'm sure most of you know all about Go Noodle. If you don't know about it, check it out. It's free and really great for indoor recess!
The students are finished with note taking for their turtle research. Now, they've started to plan their projects. (More about our turtle projects and a freebie can be found here.) These photos are of students working on some turtle and tortoise vocabulary. They'll be creating diagrams as part of their projects, so we reviewed words that they might need to include. I love how the student above is explaining something to his partner by rereading and pointing to the text,
Thursday was SUPPOSED to be the 100th day of school. Since we've had so many snow days, it was actually the 96th day. The first graders still shared their projects in the cafeteria. These are a couple of my favorites. The shirt was created and worn by one of the first grade teachers.
My husband made a Hawaiian pizza and a pepperoni pizza for our Friday night dinner. It was hard to stop at one slice of each. Once both kids are in bed, maybe we'll get cozy on the couch and watch the seventh Star Trek movie.
